DoorDash gift cards: where to buy them for less than face value

If you order from DoorDash more than a couple of times a month, a discounted gift card is worth more than any promo code on my DoorDash page. It works every time, on every order, on existing accounts, and it stacks with everything else, because the app sees it as payment, not a promotion. You pay less than face value for the card, load it, and the discount is baked into every order after that.

Where DoorDash gift cards sell below face value

Warehouse clubs. Costco has sold DoorDash gift cards in multi-packs below face value, in the warehouse and online for members. Stock comes and goes, especially around the holidays, and the discount changes, so check the listing rather than trusting a number from a blog post, including this one. When a pack is in stock it is usually the best deal on this page.

Gift-card marketplaces (Raise, CardCash and similar). People sell gift cards they don't want here, at a discount. DoorDash cards tend to go for a few percent to around ten percent off, and it varies day to day. Two rules: use the balance soon after buying, and only buy a listing covered by the marketplace's guarantee. Read what the guarantee actually covers and for how long before you pay.

Grocery stores with fuel points or gift-card promotions. Some chains run multiplied fuel points on gift-card purchases and the occasional money-off coupon on gift cards. Neither is a direct discount on the card, but if you buy fuel there anyway it works out as one.

Credit-card rewards portals. Several cards let you redeem points for DoorDash gift cards, and some run gift-card promotions in the portal around the holidays. Check yours before buying anywhere else; the points rate is sometimes better than cash back.

At face value, when you just need one. DoorDash sells digital cards on its own site, and physical cards are on the racks at most grocery stores, pharmacies, Target and Walmart. No discount, but no risk either, and a physical card is the easiest gift.

Where I'd skip

Random sellers on auction sites and social media. The discount looks better, and that's the tell. Cards bought with stolen credit cards get cancelled after you've loaded them, and the balance goes with them. No guarantee, no recourse. A bigger discount isn't worth the chance of a dead card.

How to redeem one

  1. Buy the card and scratch or reveal the code.
  2. In the DoorDash app, go to Account, then Gift Card, then Redeem, and paste the code.
  3. The balance sits as DoorDash credit and is used before your card on each order.

Checking a balance: there's no public balance-check page. Once a card is redeemed, the balance shows under Account, then Gift Card. A card you haven't redeemed can only be checked by redeeming it, which is one more reason to buy from a seller with a guarantee.

What stacks with it

Everything. The gift card is a way of paying, not a promotion, so DoorDash's own promo codes, the Offers tab, DashPass delivery savings and pickup credits all apply on top. Buy the card at a discount, use an Offers-tab deal at checkout, and you've saved twice on one order. For an existing account with no public code to use, this is the whole strategy: what works for existing users plus a discounted card.

The catches

  • As of this writing, gift-card balance can't pay for a DashPass subscription.
  • It may not cover every line of an order, such as the tip, so keep a card on file.
  • Marketplace cards can have a partial balance already used if the seller is dishonest; that's what the guarantee is for. Redeem within the guarantee window.
  • Terms are printed on the card and change; check them before buying a large amount.

Questions I get asked a lot

Where can I buy a DoorDash gift card?

Online from DoorDash itself at face value, from Amazon and most big retailers' gift-card racks (grocery stores, pharmacies, Target, Walmart), from warehouse clubs, and second-hand from gift-card marketplaces, which is where the discounts are.

Can I buy a DoorDash gift card at a discount?

Yes. Warehouse clubs sometimes sell multi-packs below face value, gift-card marketplaces list unwanted cards a few percent to around ten percent off, and some credit-card rewards portals run gift-card promotions. The size of the discount changes week to week, so check the listing rather than a number from a blog post.

How do I redeem a DoorDash gift card?

In the app: Account, then Gift Card, then Redeem, and paste the code. The balance becomes DoorDash credit and is used before your card on each order.

Does a DoorDash gift card stack with promo codes?

Yes. A gift card is a way of paying, not a promotion, so promo codes, Offers-tab deals, DashPass savings and pickup credits all apply on top of it.

Can I pay for DashPass with a DoorDash gift card?

As of this writing, no. Gift-card balance covers orders but not the DashPass subscription, and it may not cover every line of an order such as the tip, so keep a card on file.

How do I check a DoorDash gift card balance?

Redeem it in the app and the balance shows under Account, then Gift Card. There is no public balance-check page, so a card you haven't redeemed can only be checked by redeeming it.
