Domino's coupon code not working? It's probably your cart, not the code

Domino's is different from the delivery apps. Its coupons are public, numbered, and listed in the app, so the question is rarely whether a code exists. It's whether your order matches what the coupon is for. Here are the reasons a Domino's code fails, in the order to check them.

1. Your cart doesn't match the coupon

This is the usual one. A Domino's coupon is attached to specific items: a medium two-topping pizza, a large specialty, two or more Mix & Match items. If the coupon wants a medium and you've built a large, it says the cart doesn't qualify. The fix is to read the coupon's description in the app and build the cart to match it exactly, then apply. Changing the pizza size after applying can knock the coupon off again.

2. Carryout versus delivery

Many Domino's coupons are one or the other. The weeklong carryout deal at $7.99 fails on a delivery order, and some delivery coupons fail on carryout. The toggle is at the top of the order; check it before you blame the code.

3. Each item takes one coupon

Domino's applies one coupon per item. A pizza that's already in the Mix & Match deal at $6.99 can't also take a percentage-off code. If you want the percentage code, take the item out of the deal first. For a normal order the deal usually wins anyway; percentage codes only beat Mix & Match on large, menu-priced orders.

4. It's a coupon for a different store

Numbered coupons can be store-specific. A code that worked at the store near your office may not exist at the one near your house. The Coupons tab in the app, once you've set your store, shows exactly the ones that store honors, with their numbers. If a code isn't in that list, it won't apply there, however many coupon sites list it.

5. It's a word code from a coupon site

Domino's real coupons are four-digit numbers. The word codes that circulate (APPNOW, 50OFF, PERFECTCOMBO) are mostly leftovers from past national promotions, and they come and go. The ones that applied on my test this morning are in the table on my Domino's page with the time they were checked; anything not in that table is a guess.

Where the code goes

In the app or on the site, start the order and set your store. Open the Coupons section and either tap a listed coupon or type the number into the Coupon code box. The coupon then sits at the top of the order and tells you if the cart doesn't qualify. Build the cart to match, and it applies.

The deal that needs no code

If the code won't apply and you want to stop fighting it: Mix & Match, two or more items at $6.99 each, is in the Coupons tab of every store and is the cheapest way to order from Domino's on a normal night. Through Nov 8, paying with Paze takes 35% off menu-priced orders, which beats the deal on a big order.

If you've been through all five and the code still fails, send me the code, your store and what the app said. I'll try it on a real order and fix the page the same morning.
